Walker, 40, was killed in Santa Clarita, California after the porsche he was traveling in lost control. The vehicle then slammed into a post or tree and burst into flames, according to TMZ.
The entertainment website goes on to say Sources close to Paul tell us he was in Santa Clarita for a car show to support the Philippines typhoon relief effort, and had been taking friends out for rides in his new Porsche GT. The accident happened during one of those test spins.
A Facebook message posted to Walker's account Saturday evening confirmed the actor's death: It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. He was a passenger in a friend's car, in which both lost their lives. We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences.
Walker gained fame in the 1999 film 'Varsity Blues', playing Lance Harbor. He later starred in several other movies, including as Brian O'Conner in The Fast and the Furious series. His next movie, 'Hours', is set to hit theaters in the United States on December 13th.
