Waitress fired for refusing to cover dine-and-dash bill

Posted Nov 26, 2013 by Owen Weldon
It wasn't a good thing to have three men skip out on a bill, but it was even worse when waitress Suzanne Parratt was fired for refusing to pay that bill.
According to Gawker, Parratt, 31, was employed at the Pig N Whistle restaurant in Midtown Manhattan since August, and didn't have any incidents prior to last Tuesday.
According to The Consumerist, Parratt said that she didn't notice the men leave because she was in the middle of helping out a co-worker. Parratt went on to say that as soon as she noticed that they had left, she panicked because she knew that she was going to be held responsible for their $96 tab. She went to the manager, and he told her that she and her co-workers would have to cover the bill.
According to MSN, after she was fired and after she posted her story to Reddit, she found out that according to the Department of Labor Standards, she could not be held responsible for the loss.
Parratt now plans on filing legal action against the restaurant, but the restaurant said that nobody has been fired recently, and that they weren't even sure if someone by her name had worked there.
