Nonito Donaire scores second knockout win against Vic Darchinyan

Three-division world champion and former IBF, WBO, and The Ring Super Bantamweight titlist Nonito Donaire scored a second knockout win against Vic Darchinyan Saturday night in Corpus Christi, Texas.

In their first encounter in 2007, Donaire knocked out Darchinyan in the 5th round of their title fight at the Harbour Yard Arena, Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Darchinyan has been chasing Donaire since his first loss in his professional career for a rematch. After six years Darchinyan got his wishes when Donaire agreed to face him for the second time.
Donaire, also known as "The Filipino Flash," has been inactive since April following his unanimous decision loss to Cuban challenger Guillermo Rigondeaux at the Radio City Music Hall, in New York, New York. Read more:
In the 10-round non-title fight, Donaire was the dominant fighter in the early rounds, scoring hard left and right combinations but Darchinyan started finding his target beginning with round four when he connected two hard left punches that stunned Donaire.
Darchinyan's domination continued in round five when he connected two successive left power punches staggering Donaire seconds before the end of the fifth round.
Donaire started to take the lead beginning round six when he caught Darchinyan with a right power punch in the middle of the round.
In the seventh round Donaire was able to connect with left and right combinations but he was not throwing more punches to neutralize Darchinyan's relentless assault.
As early as the seventh round Donaire was warned by his corner that he was behind in the scoring and it was necessary for him to be more aggressive by throwing more punches.
Donaire did what his corner wanted and on the ninth round he caught Darchinyan with a power left hook sending the Armenian down to his knees.
Darchinyan beat the 10-count by the referee but his legs were visibly wobbly as Donaire landed a series of power shots, forcing Darchinyan to cling on the corner ropes where Donaire threw more telling blows that prompted the referee to stop the fight.
Donaire was awarded a TKO win at th 2:06 mark of the ninth round.
