The estate of the late Michael Jackson pulled in a hefty sum of $160 million to make the King of Pop the richest dead celebrity.
The King of Pop is still a big money maker even in death. Michael Jackson who died of acute propofol intoxication on August 25th 2009 at age 50, has surpassed several major celebrities to earn the unfortunate title of the richest dead celebrity according to Forbes.
Two Las Vegas shows performed by Cirque du Soleil entitled Immortal and One have helped the Jackson estate rake in $160 million in the past year alone. The legendary moon walker known for numerous hits including Billie Jean and Bad was able to earn more money than any living pop star including Madonna.
The King of Pop's closest rival in death is the King of Rock 'n' Roll.
For years Elvis Presley was considered the richest dead celebrity, however the King of Rock 'n' Roll's earning power is stagnant nowadays so much so that CORE Media Group which owns the rights to Presley's name, image, likeness and manages the operation of Graceland is seeking to sell their rights to the highest bidder.
Longtime Jackson confidant Elizabeth Taylor came in fourth with $25 million, while Peanuts creator Charles Schulz came in third with $37 million. Reggae legend Bob Marley rounded out the top five list at $18 million.
