The music industry has gradually evolved from the days of Napster and with social media comes a whole new experience. Jay Z made available Thursday his newest video “Holy Grail” featuring Justin Timberlake just on Facebook for the first 24 hours, becoming the first major artist to do it.
The American rapper, record producer and entrepreneur has made quite the buzz for his latest album work titled Magna Carta. His twelfth studio album released July 4th, 2013 with collaborations with Nas and Drake.
It is not the first project or music video that feature both Timberlake and Shawn Corey Carter. Timberlake’s two-part studio album The 20/20 Experience featured Jay Z in "Suit & Tie," the album's first single.
According to Fanpagelist.com 50 million fans between Facebook and Twitter are following Timberlake. Elsewhere using Socialbakers social media analytics tool to look up celebrities revealed that Jay Z has been on Twitter for four years, nine months and 11 days. While Timberlake’s account is just months younger with four years, five months, eight days.
Seems Timberlake’s absence from the music industry along with his role in the blockbuster movie, Social Network, gave him plenty of insight into the industry of social media networking. Both artists understood the importance of tapping into Facebook’s marketing reach and user base for something like this.
Since the release of the music video over 232,000 fans Liked the video and almost produced 93, 000 shares (at the time of this report). Not a bad start for this sort of experiment and waiting to showcase it on a social network before a traditional channel for music.
