Posted Aug 6, 2013 by Markos Papadatos
On August 5, I chatted via telephone with country singer and songwriter Chase Rice. He opened up about co-writing Florida Georgia Line’s smash hit single “Cruise,” as well as his music career and his forthcoming headlining tour.

According to Chase Rice, he stated, “I am excited to get some new music out and we hope to put out a new EP soon.”
A North Carolina native, Chase noted that his latest single “How She Rolls” was released a few months ago and it is selling extremely well.
On the success of “Cruise,” which recently spent 22 weeks at the top of Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, Chase remarked, “That’s pretty crazy and it happened really fast. A lot of it is luck, as well as the fact that Nelly got involved with it too. It’s probably the biggest song I’m ever going to write, but I’ll take it,” he said.
Chase co-penned the chart-topping single “Cruise” with Joey Moi, Jesse Rice, as well as Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard, both of which comprise the country duo Florida Georgia Line.
Last year, Chase played at The Paramount in Huntington, New York, where he opened for country songstress Kellie Pickler. “That was a fun deal. I can’t believe that was a year ago and I was playing acoustic and opening for people and now I am doing a fall headlining tour across the entire country. I am blessed to say that I am having a little bit of success,” he said. “The Paramount treated me really well and it was a really cool venue. I would like to get back there at some point.”
Chase has his first headlining “Ready Set Roll” tour this year, and he is slated to make a stop at New York City’s Gramercy Theatre on October 12, where he will be playing with Sam Hunt. “It’s a nationwide tour through Live Nation and we are playing a lot of venues. It’s great to be going back to a lot of places that I’ve been such as Chicago and Florida. I am excited to get out West and tour in places that I have never been to before. I am pumped to be able to do this,” he said. “I will be playing with Sam Hunt at Gramercy Theatre. He’s going to be awesome since he’s a great singer and a crazy good songwriter. I’m sure the girls are going to fall in love with him that night.”
He has praised country superstar Miranda Lambert, especially since she has a “unique voice,” and he loves her attitude. “I think Miranda and I would have fun together on a duet. She is awesome,” he said.
