In the Philippines, where basketball is the country's most popular sport, Nike Philippines' presentation is "designed to inspire young Filipino athletes to strive for greatness and perhaps be like James."
Philippine basketball fans will have a chance to leave a personal message to James via social media like Facebook and Twitter during James's visit.
Philstar.com reports that by visiting Facebook and Twitter pages of Nike basketball, "fans can "leave a message" for the two-time champion and four-time MVP along with a picture of themselves that express a personal message to the player everyone calls "The King."
Nike Phl instructs the caption of the photo should tag Nike Basketball Phl (https://www.facebook.com/nikebasketball.phils) on Facebook or tag @NikePH on Twitter, both including the hashtag #WITNESSHISTORY, Philstar.com added.
James, who powered the Heat to their second consecutive NBA title, is very popular in the Philippines. His upcoming visit will be a momentous event for Filipino basketball fans.
Earlier, Philippine basketball fans were anticipating another visit of James' mentor and Miami Heat's Coach Erik Spoelstra on invitation of Smart Gilas head Manny Pangilinan to observe the preparation for the Philippine team in the upcoming FIBA Asia games in Manila starting Aug. 1. But the Filipino-American coach had to decline the invitation due to prior commitments.
“I think anything more than me supporting the program as a distant fan, anything more than that, would probably be unrealistic,” Spoelstra said.
Following the Heat's victory, James joins Bill Russell and Michael Jordan as the only players in NBA history to win back-to-back MVPs & NBA titles in the regular season. He is also the fifth player to win consecutive Finals MVP awards. Read more.
