Kevin Hutchinson-Foster has been given an eleven year gaol sentence for supplying a gun to Mark Duggan. His will almost certainly be the only conviction resulting from this case.

Metropolitan Police
On August 4, 2011, father of four Mark Duggan was shot dead by an unnamed police officer from Operation Trident, the specialist Metropolitan Police unit that deals with black on black crime, with special reference to gun crime. Duggan was in the back of a mini-cab, and was believed to be armed. He was not, although a gun was found near the scene.
The appalling way this case was handled led to a riot in the area, which spread like wildfire to other areas of London, especially Clapham and Croydon, and then to other parts of the country. Inexcusable though these riots were, there can be no doubt they would not have happened but for this shooting.
The man alleged to have supplied Duggan with the gun found at the scene was Kevin Hutchinson-Foster. It may have taken two trials, but he has now been convicted and given an eleven year sentence.

By all accounts, Hutchinson-Foster is a nasty piece of work; he is already serving a sentence for drug offences, and had used the same gun to pistol whip a man in a barber shop a week previously. There remains though the Mark Duggan inquest; last month it was revealed that officials are considering showing this live on the Internet. The reason for this is not far to seek; the unnamed police officer who shot Duggan claimed the victim was pointing a gun at him, but the forensic evidence says otherwise. There are probably concerns that there will be more civil unrest if the cover up continues. In one sense it will, because the killer of Mark Duggan has already testified anonymously, and even at the inquest that veil of anonymity will not be lifted from him, or from any of the other armed police present at the time.
