"Cain’s impressive resume makes him a valuable addition to the Fox News and Fox Business lineup. As a political expert with business savvy, he brings an important voice to the nation’s debates," Bill Shine, Fox News Channel executive vice president of programming, said in a statement on Friday, Yahoo reports.
In true Herman Cain fashion, Cain heralded his own hiring in the same statement.
“I’m excited about joining the Fox family as a contributor because it is an opportunity to be one more voice for intelligent thinking in American,” he said.
Cain, a former president and CEO of Godfather's Pizza, first ran for president in 2000 and ran for U.S. Senate in Georgia in 2004. But it wasn't until this last presidential election cycle, that Cain topped the polls touting his "9-9-9" tax plan to crowds across the country.
The news comes just weeks after Fox News chose not to renew the contracts of former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and pundit Dick Morris, whose wildly-incorrect 2012 presidential predictions earned widespread criticism.
Cain joins former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown, who lost his reelection bid against Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), as the latest addition to the network, along with former far-left Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich.
Though still by far the most-watched cable news network , Fox has undergone a post-election downturn among 25-54-year-olds, recording its lowest ratings among the pivotal demographic since August 2001, according to the LA Times.
According to the Huffington Post, CEO Roger Ailes recently said in an interview that he wants to attract more Latino viewers to the channel.
