Digital Journal recently reported on the preparation for this spectacular event.
Tons of fireworks lit up Sydney's skyline as more than a million party-goers celebrated to bring in the new year from the city's harbor shores.
The balmy summer night saw a cascade of seven tons of fireworks, set off from barges and rooftops surrounding the harbor, with many cascading from the famous centerpiece, Sydney Harbor Bridge.
This heralded the world's first major celebration to mark the start of 2013. The event apparently cost $6.6 million Australian ($6.9 million US), and the extravaganza was billed by the organizers as the world's largest pyrotechnic event of its kind.
Celebrations will now gradually move across Asia, to Europe and finally to the USA, where hundreds of thousands are expected to appear in Times Square, New York City, to await the drop of the Waterford crystal-studded ball, marking the entry of 2013.
