Todd Akin's now "famous" comment, made during an interview with the KTVI television station, has now gone viral in this pharmaceutical advertising parody, which mocks the concept of "legitimate rape" as the ultimate in contraception.
Akin suggested in the interview that "legitimate rape" rarely produces pregnancy because “the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”
While Akin has apologized for his comment, the parody arising from it is going viral on YouTube, with almost 240,000 views in just 3 days.
The ad begins, "Are you a woman who sometimes finds it difficult to afford expensive birth control?"
“If so you're probably suffering from Sexually Liberated Uterine Tendencies [SLUT]. A serious medical condition.”
"Fortunately there's a treatment that can help," she says, as she is brutally knocked to the ground by a "rapist."
"It's called legitimate rape." We are then told how legitimate rape then activates the body's natural method of preventing pregnancy and the video continues to give us more details.
We are further told that the “Side effects of legitimate rape may include depression, nausea, insomnia, bruising and accusations that you’re just being hysterical.”
“Legitimate rape isn’t for everyone. To find out if it is right for you ask your doctor.” [Thump.] "Ask your congressman."
The video ends with the words, "Legitimate rape. It’s like regular birth control, except as imagined by crazy people.”
Laura Napoli & Joel Silberman produced and starred in the parody.
