Pond Life, the BBC’s spin-off science-fiction mini-series, has completed its five-episode run with a dramatic finale, just one day ahead of the start of the 2012 series of parent show Doctor Who.

The web-based series, which follows the lives of Amy and Rory Pond (Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill) and their friend the Doctor (Matt Smith), has been running since Monday, with a new episode launched each day.
Pond Life – which is penned by one of Doctor Who’s regular writers, Chris Chibnall (Law & Order: UK) and directed by Saul Metzstein (Guy X) – spent its first four episodes in rather comedic style – including the Doctor providing backing vocals for Dizzee Rascal and the sight of an Ood on the loo! – but departed from that for the final instalment today.
Episode 1 of Pond Life is shown above, and all five episodes, which can be viewed online through the Doctor Who website, will also be made available in the UK, on Saturday, 1 September, through the BBC Red Button.
Meanwhile, Doctor Who returns to British, American and Canadian television tomorrow – Saturday, 1 September – with Asylum of the Daleks, which is the first full-blown Dalek script Moffat has written for the series. Four further episodes follow in the coming weeks.
Chibnall has written episodes 2 and 4 – Dinosaurs on a Spaceship and The Power of Three – while episode 4 – A Town Called Mercy – has been penned by the creator of Being Human, Toby Whithouse. Episode 5, which wraps up this batch of episodes and sees the Ponds leave the series for good, is Moffat’s The Angels Take Manhattan.
The new batch of episodes will also commence in September in Australia (8 September) and New Zealand (13 September).
