An investigation is underway after a passenger on an Air Canada flight found a sewing needle in a sandwich purchased on-board the plane. It comes two weeks after 5 sandwiches were found with sewing needles on Delta Airlines flights.

The National Post reports the incident happened on an Air Canada flight Sunday from Victoria to Toronto. Spokesman Peter Fitzpatrick says the airline is taking the matter “very seriously” and has contacted its caterers to ensure “heightened security measures are in place." Both the airline and police are investigating, but the airline says so far it appears to be an isolated case.
Digital Journal told you two weeks ago how sewing needles were found in five sandwiches on four different Delta Airlines flights out of Amsterdam and headed for the US. ABC News reports that two passengers suffered minor injuries.
USA Today says despite the similarities investigators in the Netherlands say it's not clear if they may be related. Canadian police say there is no information to link the cases and suggest it could be the work of a copycat criminal.
