Roger Federer advances to the fourth round
The 3rd ranked Federer struggled early on losing the first two sets 4-6, 6-7. The 30 year old native of Switzerland rebounded quickly
beating Benneteau in the three remaining sets 6-2, 7-6, 6-1.
At one point in the fourth set Benneteau was tied with Federer 6-6, two points away from winning the match which would have marked the second monumental upset in the last two days.
Federer's champion presence enabled him to persevere in a match where he didn't quite have his best stuff. Federer stayed calm and collected throughout the match, keeping his hopes alive to win the tournament and retain his status as the number one player in the world.
You just try to focus point by point. It sounds so boring but that's the thing out there. Tonight was special
This match marked the eight time in Federer's career where he come back from an 0-2 set deficit to win a match.
There is no question that Rolos's upset over Nadal yesterday had a profound affect on other underdogs remaining in the tournament. In the last few days favorites such as
Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray survived nerve racking outings to advance in their brackets
Federer will now go on to face unseeded Xavier
Malisse from Belgium.
