The boy's relatives were informed the child had died during chest surgery at a government hospital in Riyadh, following the car crash. Emirates 247 reported the family was given a certificate of death and began to make funeral arrangements for later in the day.
According to the Saudi Gazette hospital personnel returned to the morgue with another dead body, and noticed signs of life in the boy's body. The child was immediately rushed to intensive care when checks confirmed he was still alive.
When the hospital informed the boy's family of the shocking news his mother immediately collapsed and needed to be admitted to the hospital.
Digital Journal reported a similar case in the Gulf when a Saudi woman was proclaimed dead in a hospital in Kuwait City and was traumatised by the shock of awakening in a morgue. She is suing the hospital, claiming she could have “perished alive of horror, cold, lack of food and water.”
In the case of the 12-year-old boy his relatives have called for the medical team involved to be punished.
