Croatia to recognize gay marriage
The Prime Minister of Croatia has announced the country plans to introduce a legal framework to recognize same sex-marriages.

Under current law, Croatia has allowed for civil partnerships between same-sex couples since 2003, but the law recognizes only the right to own joint property and the right to be supported by a partner.
Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic has announced his intent to recognize gay marriage, saying "It is essential to assure greater judicial security to people who are also part of our community." (

During his election campaign Milanovic
promised the Social Democratic Party would improve the position of homosexual couples, a position rejected by former Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor and the Croatian Democratic Union.
According to the
Croatian Times the new law will allow couples to marry but not adopt children. Milanovic gave a speech saying "Giving stronger civil legal rights to gay communities will not deprive anyone of their rights" adding "human rights are simply human rights."
