Review: Hotel Los Castaños — Boutique hotel in Andalucía, Spain Special
Nestled among the rolling hills of the Serranía de Ronda, this charming Moroccan themed hotel is the perfect place to relax.
Hotel Los Castaños is located in Cartajima, a traditional white village (or "pueblo blanco"), just a short drive from the historic town of Ronda
. Cartajima is also convenient for visits to the romantic cities of Andalucía - Sevilla, Cordoba, Granada, Cadiz and Jerez.
Located in the heart of the village next to the church and the Town Hall, the hotel is convenient to shops, restaurants and bars in the area.
The Moroccan theme
of the hotel is charming and attractive, and all rooms are extremely comfortable. Owners Di and John are always unobtrusively on hand with tourism assistance.
The views from the hotel are mesmerising, and the hotel actually boasts the best vistas in the area.
For those hot summer months, the hotel is air-conditioned, and for the chillier winter days, there is always a roaring log fire going in the guests' lounge.
For colder or rainy days, the hotel's library has an extensive range of books, games, music and movies. Perfect to relax until the weather improves.
For animal lovers, or those with allergies, there are cats and dogs resident on the property. However, the cats prefer to live outside and the dogs are not usually around the hotel, unless someone wants to meet them.
The hotel has a rooftop terrace (pictured top left and right) with lovely views, were you can relax on a lounger in the sun, enjoy a light meal or have a dip in the splash pool to cool off.
In the evenings, relax with a glass of wine before dinner or go stargazing with the telescope provided for guests.
Every evening (except Sundays) the hotel offers a dinner party, where you can enjoy 4 courses of Western Mediterranean cuisine.
An idea of a typical menu is as follows:
: Rocket and watercress salad with a verjus dressing.
Gambas al ajillo (shrimp with lots of garlic and local olive oil)
Pork fillet stuffed with locally grown almonds with a selection of fresh vegetables
Followed by local cheeses and petit pot de chocolat with fresh berries
All washed down with a good Spanish wine and followed by coffee or tea.
Take your coffee or an after-dinner drink and relax in the courtyard of the hotel.
When ready for bed after a tiring day touring the area, the 6 en-suite rooms are all different and extremely comfortable.
All rooms have a Moroccan theme and have balcony with views of the area.
And here are typical views:
