Former Vice President Dick Cheney receives new heart

Former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney is recovering in hospital following a heart transplant on Saturday. Mr. Cheney, 71, waited 20 months for a donor heart.
The New York Times reported Cheney's aide, Kara Ahern, released a statement saying "Although the former vice-president and his family do not know the identity of the donor, they will be forever grateful for this lifesaving gift." Following surgery Mr. Cheney is in the intensive care unit of Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia.
Mr Cheney has an ongoing history with heart problems, suffering his first heart attack in 1978 at age 37. Medicine Net reported he had a second heart attack at age in 1984, a third in 1988, followed by bypass surgery in 1988.
According to the FT Mr. Cheney, who went on to have two more heart attacks, had two angioplasties following the bypass, followed in 2001 by the implantation of a defibrillator in his chest.
The former Halliburton executive served as Vice President for the full eight year term of George W. Bush's presidency.
