Israel planning to rebuild bombed embassy in Argentina

As reported by the Jewish Tribune, St. Louis Jewish Light and Jewish Telegraphic Agency Israel will rebuild its embassy in Argentina next year. This was announced by Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon in a ceremony in Beunos Aires to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the terrorist bombing there, which in March 17, 1992 killed 29 and injured hundreds. The current Israeli embassy in Beunos Aires is a modest two floors of an office building in downtown Buenos Aires, and displays no flags. Ayalon has stated that Israel opts to change that stating: "We want the Israeli flag waving again on the streets of Buenos Aires."

"This new home will show that we can win against terror." Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for this bombing. Islamic Jihad is an organization that has close ties and links with the regime in Iran and its proxy force Hezbollah in Lebanon. The stated motive for this attack was Israel's assassination of Hezbollah's Secretary General Sayed Abbas al-Musawi in February of that year. This however was Israeli retaliation for the kidnapping and subsequent death of missing Israeli servicemen in 1986, as well as the abduction of US Marine and UN peace-keeping officer William R. Higgins, whose murder by hanging shocked the world. These parties are also prime suspects in the bombing attack on the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association building in Buenos Aires in 1994, this attack killed 85 people and injured hundreds, mostly Argentines and was the deadliest bombing ever in that country. One of the prime suspects in that bombing, Ahmad Vahidi is the current Iranian Defence Minister despite his links with that horrific bombing. With 200,000 members Argentina possesses the largest Jewish community in Latin America.
