Billy Crystal's return to the stage as host of the Academy Awards after an eight-year absence isn't the only news from outside the Kodak Theatre as Westboro Baptist Church prepares for their annual picket on Hollywood Blvd.
The anti-gay, Kansas-based church, led by Pastor Fred Phelps, has scheduled a picket for Sunday afternoon to protest what they say are "sins against the Creator."
In a press release to doomed Americans the radical church said, "God is cursing the country by killing off idols in great numbers, including: Joe Paterno, Steve Jobs, Michael Jackson, Brittany Murphy, Ed McMahon, Farah Fawcett, Billy Mays, and Casey Johnson." They chastise those who oppose them for not mourning for their sins, and begging forgiveness from God.
The Phelps family said, "we will be there to put His words before your face when you haul your rebellious carcasses into the Kodak Theater to throw bouquets at one another for vain accomplishments. The day of your destruction is upon you, even as you vainly seek comfort in the frivolities of this life."
The church, which is known for picketing high profile events and military funeral, made an appearance at the Golden Globes last month to spread the word that the America is cursed because of the country's acceptance of homosexuality, abortion and divorce.
The peaceful demonstrations, reported on by Digital Journal , featured the Phelps family singing parodies of hit songs and a counter-protest by a group chanting "God loves everyone."
Margie Phelps reply to this, "What about the people in hell?"
A counter-protest organized on Facebook has been scheduled for the same time tomorrow afternoon before the 84th annual Academy Awards presentation.
