The SIU is investigating a deadly shooting this morning that took place on Milverton Blvd. at about 10:15 a.m.
According to witnesses at the scene interviewed by various Toronto media sources a man was shot three times by the Toronto Police.
SIU stated there was an interaction between the victim and two Toronto Police officers.
"At some point, the man was fatally shot. He was taken to St. Michael’s Hospital."
Police appear to have been looking for the victim, thought to have been recently released from Toronto East General Hospital, prior to the incident. One neighbour said that the victim demanded her husband hand over his house keys when he ran onto Milverton. The woman's husband refused reports the Globe and Mail.
Witnesses at the scene are said to have seen the victim lunge at police who were telling the man to 'freeze.' The officer then shot the man three times. The man was then restrained by police for some time prior to an ambulance arriving at the scene. Witnesses say that it took two minutes for EMS to arrive.
An officer was also injured at the scene. His injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.
Some who witnessed the events are concerned that the police used excessive force. That's a concern that the Toronto Police are unable to comment on as the case is now in the hands of the SIU stated 54 Division.
