Miami Heat's LeBron James engaged to long-time girl friend
Miami Heat's basketball star LeBron James is now engaged to long-time high school girl friend Savannah Brinson who said yes as James proposed to her with one knee bent.
Brinson, who is the mother of James' two sons, got the basketball star's proposal at a party to celebrate New Year as well as James birthday which was Friday.
"My girl, she's very excited," James said
Sunday night after he and the Miami Heat beat Charlotte 129-90. "She would love to answer more questions about it than me. But she's happy, my family's happy and that's what it's about."
Among James closest friends present at the party were Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh.
"It was beautiful," Heat teammate Chris Bosh said. "I told him, `Good luck.' It was nice. It was real nice."
"I had no idea it was coming," Bosh said. "I just heard some commotion, and yeah, there it was. It was nice. It was real cool."
James later said Brinson was surprised of his unannounced proposal and his two kids are happy to hear about the good news.
"It should be a surprise for any woman anytime something like that happens," James said. "She was surprised. It was great that all the friends and family were there to bring in a new year. Even my kids were happy about it, so that's good. ... I feel good. I feel good. It's a good point in my life right now."
The couple has not announced the date of wedding
James' Team Miami Heat is now on its five-game winning streak after trouncing the Charlotte Bobcats 120-90 Saturday.
