The Houston Texans (6-3) hosted the Cleveland Browns (3-5) in a Week 9 matchup that had the Texans number one receiver Andre Johnson still on the bench. The Texans are now on a three game-winning streak after picking up this victory over the Browns, and the Browns are now on a two-game losing streak.
The Texans took no time to score as they opened the game with the ball. Matt Schaub (14/23, 119 yards, 1 Int) opened the ball with two-passes to Joel Dreessen (2 receptions, 27 yards). Adrian Foster (19 carries, 124 yards, 1 TD) then had three-straight runs to get the Texans into Browns territory. Ben Tate (12 carries, 115 yards, 1 TD) finished the drive with a 27-yard run to make it a quick 7-0 lead.
The Browns got the ball on the ensuing drive, but Chris Ogbonnaya (13 carries, 28 yards) fumbled on the first play of the drive. J.J. Watt recovered it for the Texans after Demeco Ryan forced it.
With the ball on the 28-yard line, Foster had a 6-yard run to kick off the drive. Schaub then connected with Owen Daniels (3 receptions, 32 yards) for a 12-yard pass before another Foster run. Schaub finished the drive with a run of his own from 2-yards out for a 14-0 lead.
Cleveland got the ball back and back and began to move the ball with Colt McCoy (14/22, 146 yards, 1 TD, 1 Int) hit Greg Little (2 receptions, 33 yards) with a 9-yard pass. Ogbonnaya then had back-to-back runs of 2-yards before McCoy and Josh Cribbs (5 receptions, 50 yards, 1 TD) hooked up for a 7-yard pass. The Browns could not keep the drive going, and Phil Dawson came on to kick a 50-yard field-goal to make it 14-3.
At the 12:00 mark in the second quarter the Texans got the ball back, and Ben Tate got it going with a 24-yard run. Schaub then connected with Dainels again for a 12-yard gain, and then Tate had a 9-yard run. Foster capped off the drive with a 19-yard touchdown run to make it a 21-3 game.
The teams traded punts until the 2:40 mark when Schaub had a pass that was picked off. Dqwell Jackson picked off the pass for the Browns and returned it 24-yards before being tackled. The Browns had the ball, but could not capitalize on the turnover as McCoy threw an interception of his own.
Quintin Demps picked off the McCoy pass and gave the Texans the ball back with .12 second left. Demps returned the ball 42-yards and set Houston up with good field position. Neil Rackers came on and made a 28-yard field-goal to make it a 24-3 lead going into halftime.
The Browns got the ball to start the second half, but had a quick three and out as they were forced to punt. The Texans took over after the punt and used Tate and Foster to get the ball moving on the ground. Schaub and Jacoby Jones (2 receptions, 28 yards) then connected on a 12-yard pass to keep the drive going. Houston continued to move the ball down the field, but got stuck on the Browns 3-yardline. So with the drive stalled Rackers had to come in and kick a 21-yard field-goal to make it a 27-3 lead.
Cleveland took over and McCoy used his arm and legs to get the Browns moving. McCoy had to big passes on the drive with him hitting Benjamin Watson (2 reception, 26 yards) 13-yards, and then hit Cribbs for a 15-yard gain. McCoy then had a run for 4-yards, but the drive stalled and Dawson had to come on and kick another field-goal. Dawson made his second 50-yard field-goal of the game with this coming from 51-yards out to make it a 27-6 game.
Houston got the ball with 2:08 left in the third quarter, and they had ball on a drive that went into the fourth quarter. Tate started the drive with an 8 and 14-yard drive. The Texans continued to use the run with Tate and Foster alternating during the drive. They could not keep it going though as Rackers came on and made 50-yard field-goal to make it a 30-6 lead.
There was 10:35 left in the game and the Browns got the ball back to start their drive. McCoy got the drive starting with a 20-yard pass to Cribbs. McCoy and Little hooked up later on as they connected on a 24-yard pitch and catch. McCoy finished the drive with a 2-yard pass to Cribbs for a touchdown. The Browns tried to go for two, but the pass was incomplete and the score was 30-12.
The Texans finished the game with the run as they used Tate and Derrick Ward (6 carries, 22 yards) to grind it out. After eight runs, Schaub had three kneel downs to give the Texans another big win for their playoff run.
