The plot, hatched by British special forces, involved gaining access to Adolf Hitler's inner circle and lacing the Nazi leader's food with doses of estrogen in order to feminize the bloodthirsty ruler and temper his quest for world domination.
Rather than simply seek to poison the leader's food, the idea was to use the tasteless and odorless hormone to work around Hitler's personal food tasters.
The plot is chronicled in the new book, Secret Weapons: Technology, Science And The Race To Win World War II by British professor Brian Ford. Although it never got past the planning stages, it was one of many discussed strategies for striking at the Nazi leader and putting an end to the fiercely-contested war in Europe.
Other plans involved the release of poisonous snakes behind enemy lines, the use of super-strong glue to trap Nazi soldiers, and explosives hidden in fruit tins.
