The popular rapper was caught in possession of contraband item inside his cell last May and after further investigations, jail authorities confirmed he has violated his jail term.
The contraband item found in his possession was a charger and headphones for a digital music player stashed in a potato chip bag in his cell last May.
The items are considered contraband, as inmates can listen to music only on radios and headphones sold at the jail commissary.
The popular American rapper started his prison term last March for a case that stemmed from a 2007 traffic stop of his tour bus in New York when authorities said they smelled marijuana, and as they approached, he tossed aside a bag with a loaded .40-caliber handgun.
Prison spokesman Stephen Morello said Lil Wayne was moved Monday in what officials called 'punitive segregation'.
Philstar.com reports:
Lil Wayne generally will now be confined to his new cell 23 hours a day, with such exceptions as visits and showers, instead of being allowed to mingle with other inmates most of the day. He'll eat in his cell and won't get to socialize even during his hour a day of recreation, Morello said.
Born Dwayne Carter, Lil Wayne had the best-selling album of 2008 with "Tha Carter III," which won a best rap album Grammy.
