Visitors at the Paignton Zoo in Devon, England were treated to the bizarre sight of a monkey lovingly carrying around a little toad one day.
Swoozie the female swamp monkey became enamored of a little toad she found sitting by a pond in her zoo enclosure. She promptly picked the toad up and held it for the rest of the day until it finally escaped from her clutches.
Crowds of people witnessed 7-year-old Swoozie cuddling the toad. She even "rubbed the cold-blooded creature to try and warm it up."
One of the zoo visitors, Sheila Hassanein, took photos of the monkey and her new pet toad.
Hassanein told Mail Online: "The monkey was trying to shield it from view, she was treating it as if it was her baby and she was trying to protect it.
"The enclosure is surrounded by water and there are lots of toads in there. She must have just picked one out.
"She was rubbing it as if she was trying to warm it up, but of course it's a cold-blooded reptile. It was very strange."
