The latest agreement gives Sony Music's Columbia Epic Label Group and Legacy Recordings the right to continue their term to his catalog and to create new projects featuring yet to be released Jackson recordings. The first new project is expected to be released in November 2010.
Jackson was with Epic Records for three decades, selling hundreds of millions of records across the globe. He was one of just a few artists to be twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. During his life Jackson won 13 Grammy Awards and was named American Music Award's Artist of the Century Award.
Jackson's album Thriller continues to be the best selling album of all time. When the 25th anniversary album was released in 2008 it returned to #1 on the weekly sales charts.
Rob Stringer, Chairman of the Columbia Epic Label Group is quoted in a press release from Sony Music, "Michael has always been a treasured member of the Sony Music family. We're dedicated to protecting this icon's legacy and we're thrilled that we can continue to bring his music to the world for the foreseeable future."
