One thing you can say about the speech President Obama made Wednesday night is that it had moments of comedy, tough talk and hope. He challenged Republicans to try and work with Democrats on getting health care legislation passed. He reiterated that the change he talked about during his campaign has not come fast enough for many Americans. He also stated that he could not make changes by himself, but that everyone has a part in making things change.
No one was spared from getting singled out for making mistakes during his address: including the military, lobbyists, Wall Street and even himself. He seemed to try appease Republicans with his push for offshore drilling for oil, new nuclear power plants and tax cuts. Some of that might not sit well with people in his own party. I think the President was trying to reconnect with Americans, especially the middle class. It seems to me he did that.
Last year was a tough one for many of us. Every year is different with its own set of challenges. Hope is a little word, but sometimes its all that one has. I and many others others are hoping 2010 will be a much better year than 2009 was. The last part of the President's speech was about taking that hope that many in this country had and were able to succeed for the last 200 plus years..
