UEFA names five teams suspected of match-fixing in European ties

The governing body of European Football, UEFA, introduced its Betting Fraud Detection System (BFDS) in July 2009. This program has been monitoring all matches in the top two tiers of every European league for irregular betting patterns since that time.
Based on its findings, the spectre of match-fixing is raising its ugly head again in European football. Earlier this week, the German football authorities confirmed that four second division matches in Germany were under suspicion, plus 28 further games in the lower domestic leagues. These games have all been played since July 2009.
SC Verl, a team playing in the fourth division of the German League indicated on November 25th that they had suspended two players suspected of manipulating the results of two games.
The BFDS has also been monitoring all UEFA competitions and on Wednesday, November 25th UEFA met with the national associations of nine countries to discuss all the matches that were under investigation.
It seems as though some cases of match-fixing are more clear cut than others because only five teams have been named so far as being under investigation. The most well-known team is Honved, who play in the Hungarian league. The other teams are Klubi i Futbollit Tirana and Klubi Sportiv Vllaznia Shkodër of Albania, Dinaburg FC, a Latvian team that play in the city of Daugavpils, and NK IB Ljubljana of Slovenia.
The BFDS noted betting irregularities in the following games:
The second leg of the Champions League qualifying match between Klubi i Futbollit Tirana and Stabaek IF of Norway.
Both legs of the the Europa League (formerly called the UEFA Cup) second round qualifying tie between Bnei Yehuda Tel-Aviv FC of Israel and Dinaburg FC.
Both legs of the the Europa League second round qualifying tie between Klubi Sportiv Vllaznia Shkodër and Rapid Vienna of Austria.
Both legs of the Europa League third round qualifier between NK IB Ljubljana and Metallurg Donetsk of the Ukraine.
Both legs of the Europa League third round qualifier between Honved and Fenerbahçe of Turkey.
