Pacquiao-Mayweather Bout Triggers Search for Bigger Fight Venues

The proposed Pacquiao-Mayweather match tentatively set for early next year has triggered a frenzied search for a bigger fight venue apparently to accommodate thousands of boxing fans from around the world who will watch next year's most anticipated boxing event. While the contract for the fight has not been signed as negotiations are yet to commence, boxing promoter Bob Arum has received several offers for new and bigger venues for the upcoming fight. A google report after HBO's disclosure of PPV of the recent Pacquiao-Cotto match says :

The potential of a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight is so big that Arum said casino magnate Steve Wynn had already spoken to him about constructing a 30,000-seat outdoor arena on what is now a vacant lot across from his two resorts to host the bout, with other casinos joining in as partners. Outdoor arenas were a staple of the big fights in Las Vegas in the 1980s, beginning with the Muhammad Ali-Larry Holmes fight at Caesars Palace.

There has been talks earlier about other possible venues including Texas, Las Vegas, New York and even Vancouver in Canada. Aside from Wynn's offer of constructing an outdoor venue for the proposed mega fight in one of the vacant lots in the strip in partnership with other Casino owners, Texas has also offered is Dallas Cowboy's new stadium. The New York Yankee Stadium is also under consideration but personalities involved in the search are saying that New York may be left out because of tax considerations. "A lot of people are interested," Arum said. "The problem with having it in the East, though, is that the taxes are so big that the fighters would have to give up millions in extra taxes." Another possible venue is Vancouver, Canada where thousands of Filipino-Canadians are 'lobbying' for the holding of a Pacquiao match in their city. It appears that the proposed mega fight between Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao and the undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather is destined to be the biggest boxing event of 2010, judging from the early preparations as reported by the media. Some knowledgeable sources in the sports circles say that the Pacquiao-Mayweather match, if it does happen, will generate so much money for the fighters and promoters, not to mention the subsequent businesses that it will generate for other establishments like hotels, airlines, restaurants, souvenir shops and similar businesses.
