David vs. Goliath
David the "Hayemaker" Haye defeated Nikolai Valuev to win the WBA Heavyweight Champion of the world title in Nuremberg, Germany.
Haye (23-1, 21 KOs) won a majority decision, with the official score cards of judges reading 114 to 114, and the other judges had it 116 to 112.
It is well known that a local favorite German fighter or adopted German fighter such as Valuev would be protected and would win any close decision whether they were indeed earned or gifted, but Haye won over two of the three judges with his clean effective body shots to the body of Valuev and smartly out boxing and moving away from any punches.
The first three rounds seemed to clearly go to Haye as he landed clean body shots and jabs and Valuev was noticeably too slow to catch or land anything.
Towards the middle rounds Valuev seemed to be the busier fighter aggressively stalking Haye around the ring with Haye not throwing much.
Finally in the 9th round Haye landed a big combination with a big right hand to the face of Valuev.
In the 12th and final round Haye threw a big combination to the head of Valuev staggering and buckling his knees almost sending him to the ground but then the referee interferes and splits the two fighters up which confused and angered most of the sold out crowd.
Nikolai Valuev suffers his second loss of his career with now a record of (50-2, 34KOs).
