TORONTO – A doctor passing by the scene of a shooting incident desperately tried to save the life of the victim but failed to revive him, Toronto Police spokesman Const. Tony Vella said Tuesday morning.
He said the victim of the latest shooting death is a 27-year-old man.
Police were called to the area of Pape Avenue and Danforth at about 7:50 p.m. on Monday when several shots rang out, Vella said.
“There was a doctor passing by and he tried to revive the victim at the scene, he was unsuccessful – but he tried his best,” Vella added.
The intersection has several doctors’ offices including surgical specialists and family physicians but police would not name the physician who intervened. The shooting occurred across the street from a Royal Bank Branch at the relatively busy intersection.
Police found the man had suffered several bullet wounds.
Detectives have not named the victim pending notification of relatives.
Several witnesses in the area are being interviewed but police cannot say if the attacker had a getaway vehicle.
A postmortem examination is scheduled for Wednesday. Police are also appealing to witnesses to come forward.
