Nigerian parent disowns daughter for being single Special

A 38-year-old Nigerian woman, Kadijat Mohammed, has been disowned by her parents for not getting married at her age, saying that they are tired of being a host to a parasite who is nothing but a liability to the family.
The Culture in Northern Nigeria allows Muslim women to get married from the age of 13 but it also forbids Muslim women from getting married to Christian men or any religion due to some reasons based on Islam, but allows Muslim men to get married to Christian women if they so desire and can marry up to four wives.
However, the culture or Islam does not state when a woman should be thrown out of her father’s house for not marrying at a certain age but it has become a tradition of parents sending their daughters out of their home when they reach a certain age.
The father of kadijat, Malan Umar Mohammed who lives in Kaduna North local Government area, says he is tired of seeing her daughter around the house and fed up with her not being married at the age of 38. He states that he longer wants to harbor a "parasite."
“I have gotten five suitors for Kadijat since she was 25 year old till now that she is 38, still she is not married. She has refused to get married to the suitors I got for her and has refused to bring in her own suitors.”
According to the culture and tradition in Northern Nigeria, it is the responsibilities of the parents to get suitors for their daughters with or without the consent of their daughter. Women in Northern Nigeria do marry a man of their parents choice and not a man of their choice unless in some cases where the daughter gets a suitor on time.
The situation was expected to calm down with the mother’s intervention but turns out to be a nightmare when the Mother of Kadijat, Mrs. Saharatu Mohammed surfaced at the scene saying that her daughter has reduced the number of children and grand-children she is meant to see.
“When I was Kadijat’s age I have given birth to 10 children, she is not even married at 38 left alone of giving me a single child. How long more do I have to wait to see her children and my grandchildren, am not getting any younger. She is just punishing us and putting shame to the family name and we cannot condone her inability to prove herself a woman.”
The neighbors who graced the odd scene said that there have been several fights between Kadijat and her parents about her getting married. Her father has said that by the end of the year if she is not married she should get ready to leave his house. Nevertheless, Malan Mohammed could no longer wait for the year to end and decided to evacuate his daughter from the house.
The cloud at the scene was divided into two parts as some stood to defend the Kadijat while some supports the move been made by the father saying that the father has done everything possible a human could do to see that Kadijat got married but she deliberately refused.
To bury the hatchet Mr. Mohammed asked those who defended Kadijat to marry her without paying her bridge price that he would give her out free of charge but no one steeped up and he said, “That’s the point who will marry an old woman even for free and you say I should not throw her out of my house.”
Kadijat said she will not marry herself and will get married at God’s own time.
“Is God that gives a husband and if the husband is yet to come will I kill myself, I have to wait for God’s time because at the right time I will get married with the man of my own choice and not to some strangers whom I do not know.”
While Kadijat was packing up, Elders offered counsel to her and said “Women always says they want Mr. Right but when the Mr. Right is not forthcoming she should consider getting married to Mr. Available,” however, the elders did not explain who is Mr. Right and who is Mr. Available.
