Hip-hop artist, T-Pain, showcased the popular Auto-Tune sound on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show - promoting his new iPhone application by putting President Obama's health care initiatives to music.
Auto-Tune was originally created by an Exxon engineer to help the oil producer better interpret seismic information. It was soon discovered that the technology could help with pitch, particularly in studio recording scenarios.
The Auto-Tune sound has since become a staple in popular hip-hop and R&B tracks. T-Pain has taken the practice to a new level, offering an iPhone application that allows users to sing along while utilizing the technology.
In its first three weeks, the T-Pain iPhone application received over 300,000 downloads.
The Jimmy Kimmel segment features a juxtaposed interview with Barack Obama and an entertaining interweaving of the Auto-Tune program.
