New photographs of self-proclaimed 9/11 mastermind, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed have leaked onto the Internet and experts are concerned the images might inspire new attacks against the United States.
According to experts, the pictures showing "Mohammed sitting serenely wearing a white robe, a red-patterned headdress and a long salt-and-pepper beard."
The International Committee of the Red Cross confirmed they took the photos and sent them to Mohammed's family.
Bernard Barrett, the spokesman of the ICRC, did not disclose the whereabouts of the terrorist leader's family.
Barrett said the photos were given only to the family and were not intended for public release, but the organization does not impose conditions on detainee families, Fox News reports.
The said images appeared in several Arabic websites on the Internet which were previously used by the al-Qaida and its sympathizers to disseminate information.
Leah Farrall, an Australian counter-terrorism expert, also noticed Mohammed was getting support from al-Qaida-linked forums.
"'We'll come and get you' is one message that I saw," said Farrall.
Mohammed, who is currently detained at Guantanamo detention center in Cuba, faces the death penalty and is being pursued in the military tribunal at Gitmo until earlier this year when President Barack Obama suspended the trials in an effort to close the detention facility.
