US vision of new arms agreement with Russia

The United States are optimistic about the possibility of a new arms agreement with Russia before the end of this year when the current agreement expires.
Russia and the United States have agreed upon a work schedule that should lead to a renewal of the current START agreement.
This was announced by the United States State Secretary Hillary Clinton during a press conference on Friday in the Swiss city of Geneva.
The announcement followed her consultation with her Russian colleague Sergej Lavrov.
Previously, Lavrov had described the current START treaty on the reduction of strategic weapons as obsolete. This treaty, signed in 1991, will expire on the fifth of December.
