Where is Ottawa's Promised Chemicals Management Plan?

The federal government is behind their time line for the promised Chemicals Management Plan. In order to get the Plan back on track, the Green Party of Canada is calling on both the Environment and Health ministers to make this a priority. Assessments of potentially cancer-causing chemicals that were meant to be released during November and December are nowhere to be seen. "It is just yet another broken promise from Stephen Harper. He pointed to this program as proof that he cares about the environment, but he isn't following through, just as he hasn't followed through on any of his other election promises," said Green Party Leader Elizabeth May. The Chemicals Management Plan is assessing the potential effects on human health and the ecosystem of about 50 potentially cancer-causing and endocrine-disrupting substances, some of which are widely used in personal care products. "We want to see proof of a commitment to protect the health of our citizens and our environment. The longer these assessments are delayed, the longer our children are exposed to these potentially dangerous chemicals. Action needs to happen now," said Adriane Carr, Deputy Leader of the Green Party.
