Things Get Worse For Blagojevich As His Lawyer Drops Out

So far for the last few weeks, we had not heard much about the impeachment trial of embattled Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich. The heat was temporarily taken off of Blagojevich with the controversy in Washington D.C. Recently, former Illinois AG Roland Burris was sworn in to fill the Illinois Senate seat vacated by US President-Elect Barack Obama. It was revealed that Genson has dropped out of the impeachment trial. That means he will no longer represent Blagojevich in the impeachment proceedings. However, a reason has not yet been stated. This brings up a new question: Who is going to represent Blagojevich? In early December, Blagojevich was arrested and charged for trying to sell Obama’s vacant Senate seat. So far, the odds have been greatly stacked against Blagojevich. Still, Blagojevich intends to fight tooth and nail with everything he has got. So far, Blagojevich seems to be having to pay for his own defense with his own dime. Illinois AG Lisa Madigan, also a Democrat, had refused to allow the state of Illinois to pay for Blagojevich’s legal defenses. Blagojevich’s lawyer Edward Genson tried to get federal wiretaps tossed out.
