On New Year’s Eve of 2007, it was announced that Vietnam would be given a two-year trial membership on the United Nations Security Council. Perhaps this will be one of Vietnam’s biggest challenges. The Gaza offensive by Israel could prove to be a test to see whether or not Vietnam is ready to help tackle things on a global scale. So far, it is already one year into its two-year trial membership.
So far, Vietnam has given forth its condemnation of the Israeli offensive on the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip. The UN Security Council held an urgent meeting upon the start of the land offensive.
