Pakistan: Gaza Airstrikes Violates the UN Charter

Upon assuming office of the United States of America on January 20, 2009, Barack Obama will be faced with a growing number of domestic and international problems. Recently, the Israeli airstrikes into Gaza have proven that it is inevitably an international problem that Obama and his administration must face. So far, the international condemnation continues to grow. It will make it harder for Obama to achieve peace in the Middle East. Syria and Lebanon could possibly be thrown into the mix. There are protests taking place in London, Great Britain in regards to the Gaza airstrikes. One must ask this question: How will Obama tackle the problem? But, it is not the only other international problem. There is the issue of Pakistan. It has been blamed by India over the brutal Mumbai Massacre. This has strained tensions between India and Pakistan. Pakistan’s government has started to shift troops from the Afghan border to the Indian border. It makes it harder on War on Terror. Pakistan is having a hard time fighting the Taliban on its end of the border. It is believed that Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden is hiding within the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan. On the Afghan side of the border, United States and coalition troops are having a tough time fighting against the Taliban and other insurgents. One of the places hit in Mumbai was a Jewish center. Many people got killed during that attack. Perhaps it is one thing that can link both problems together. Now, Lord Nazir Ahmed of the British House of Lords has asked the Muslim counties to diplomatically boycott Israel in regards to the airstrikes into Gaza. Also, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari (widower of former PM Benazir Bhutto) and Premier Syed Yousaf Reza Gilani criticized the attacks. So far, Pakistan is giving its reaction to the Israeli airstrikes into Gaza. However, Pakistan may want to pay more attention to its own problems at hand in regards to fighting the Taliban and the ever straining tensions with India. In a sense, this could possibly add another part to a possible catalyst which combines both international problems. Obama will need to bring his S+ game when he assumes office. The United Nations is split on responding to the airstrikes. So far, officials in the Pakistani government called the airstrikes a violation of the UN Charter.
