1001 Uses For That Giant Candy Cane: Man Fends Off Knife Attacker
Its the holidays and people tend to indulge in a bit more egg nog than they should. In California, one man used the lawn decoration version of a holiday confection to defend himself and others against a neighbour who was attacking guests with a knife.

A few weeks ago, 49-year-old Donald Kercell, who was said to be intoxicated, apparently became agitated and began threatening guests gathered on a neighbourhood lawn in Sacramento, California with a kitchen knife. Several of the people had their clothing cut by Kercell, which prompted the host of the Thanksgiving gathering to grab a common holiday favourite off of his lawn, a giant candy cane, and
begin beating the attacker.
Guests called police during the attack and Mr. Kercell was arrested and charged with suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
The 2-foot cane wielding individual will face no charges, as his action was sweet self defense.
And who thought they were simply tacky lawn ornaments?
