Op-Ed: Obama's Illegal Kenyan Relative Makes Rumors of Being Foreign An Easier Distraction

Posted Nov 1, 2008 by Jamie M. Kisner
As the election wraps up, there is a new mysterious report of Barack Obama's aunt being an illegal immigrant living in Boston. It seems like this could be a last attempt to make people feel suspicious of the Democrat Presidential Candidate.
Barack Obama has run a well organized campaign and volunteer grass roots effort. Obama's campaign may need to do some strategy concerning how to handle the issue publicly with undecided voters in mind. However, it is unlikely that he thought his father's half sister would cause him to be further scrutinized by the public. Obama has not had a very close relationship with his father's side of the family due to distance, but this aunt did attend his inauguration four years ago. That happened to be the same year she was told to leave the U.S.
Obama claims to know nothing about her situation, but it seems like a way to make the candidate seem foreign by association. For instance, the Republican party likes to refer to him with his entire name, which sounds like the former dictator of Iraq. Therefore, this will conjure up bad feelings and make some people less likely to vote for him based on a faulty premise. This distraction could be too late though because many people have already voted. Therefore, it could be a last ditch effort to create mystery and ultimately mistrust in the candidate concerning immigration issues. Also, this could make some people think he supports terrorists in some way, or maybe he has other relatives that could be anti-America. This report has forced Obama to say he feels that his aunt must follow the law of the U.S.
The other factor to consider are the undecided voters opinions. It could be that some may care, while some others may not at all. Obama must not let this report tie him as an immigrant because it will make some uniformed voters think he was not born in Hawaii. Therefore, he has to maintain his citizenship appearance, and allow the tide to shift back to the real issues. Obama must stay calm as usual, and make the news appear like a separate issue from his campaign. There are only a couple days to go, and if he wins, he will have the opportunity to make immigration issues improve to protect everyone.
In conclusion, Barack Obama has a a short time, until we all learn the results of the race. It is sure to be an experience that is new to all, and one with hope. The distractions and political games will end, and this country will be able to move forward into the 21st Century with great leadership.
