Google’s Android dream is finally taking place with the launch of the first phone in T-Mobile’s G1 handset built by HTC. Some of the main features of this phone include:

Like the iPhone Apps store, Android will have its own store where software developers can submit their applications via the Android SDK. Already they have a number of applications, with more phones in the market, we will see a comparable one to iPhone’s. Unlike the screening of Apple, users will determine which ones they like most.

Android’s blog explains about the application submissions:

"Developers will be able to make their content available on an open service hosted by Google that features a feedback and rating system similar to YouTube...Content can debut in the marketplace after only three simple steps: register as a merchant, upload and describe your content and publish it."

Amazon is also partnering with Android and will have its MP3 store available on the new phone and users can search, download, play and buy music from the phone itself. Amazon has more than 6 million DRM-free MP3 songs.

Android phones will be a worthy competitor to iPhone and any mobile companies can use the Android operating system for free.
