Known as "The Dutch Jimmy Carter", Van Agt is currently working on a book in which he sharply criticizes the racist policies implemented by Israel, the brutal day-to-day treatment and humiliation of Palestinians, and the terrorist acts committed by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).

The Dutch politician was PM from 1977 to 1982, and led the Christian Democratic Appeal party during that time, he has recently received fierce criticism over his view regarding the middle east.

Agt, 77, launched a website in December, where he has posted a gallery of photos depicting some of the atrocities committed by Israeli soldiers. One photo shows a wall in Herbron with the words, "Arabs to the gas chambers", spray painted on it, apparently by Jewish settlers.

"I'm driven partly by my shame for not speaking up for the Palestinians when I was in power, and partly by some striking experiences I had when visiting the Occupied Territories in the recent past,"
he says.
"People often ask me how come I'm so outspoken now, but did not speak up when I was in a position of power. And it's true, I never spoke up for the Palestinians, except for when Sabra and Shatila happened. And even that was in soft terms."
