Google is promoting this new offline feature in Google Docs through its main search page. You can read or edit Google Docs when you are not connected to the Internet and also use the service as a back-up for your online documents.

You will need Google Gears, which is an open source browser extension that adds offline functionality directly to your browser. It helps to synchronize the documents between your computer and your online account. This offline feature works both in Firefox 3 and Internet Explorer.

The Google Docs provides this editing option in Documents, but for presentation and spreadsheets it offers only view option (editing option will be available later).

With Google Docs offline feature, you can do the following:

* Edit your documents and view your presentations and spreadsheets – all from your browser.

* Changes are saved offline and sync automatically when you're back online. You don't have to do a thing.

* Add a Google Docs shortcut to your desktop to quickly access your documents.

If your internet connection is broken or if you are not in a place where you can get access to the Net, you can still see your documents and edit them.
