In connection to a recent story posted on Digital Journal that revealed a horrible classroom undertaking of a kindergartner with medical problems related to his classroom behaviour where a veteran teacher allowed her students to vote the young child out of the class, some justice has been served. Wendy P., a Morningside Elementary Teacher who encouraged her kindergarten class to vote "Alex" out of the room based upon his behaviour, was removed from her classroom duties and reassigned, according to a news article. The kids voted "14 to 2" to send their classmate packing to the office for the remainder of the day, but not before they were all allowed to tell Alex what they didn't like about him. Melissa Barton, Alex's mom, told how her son is currently in the process of being tested for Asperger's Syndrome, a high functioning form of Autism, and how all of the students in the class were given the opportunity to let Alex know what they didn't like about him. Words like “disgusting” and “annoying” were used to describe the little boy. The little boy was devastated and his mother did not return him to the school. The teacher had worked at the school for nine years and had been part of the Special Education meetings process of Alex. She was also part of Alex's Individual Education Plan (IEP), which is used for children who have special needs.
