Hope Food Supply Inc. based in Pasadena, Texas has been ordered by
Federal authorities to close its doors and recall all products distributed nationally since 2007.
According to the press release, the FDA cited that the company had manufactured smoked catfish and other smoked seafood products under a different name and:
had been subject to a consent decree of permanent injunction requiring it to develop and implement an adequate Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) plan for its fish and fishery products
The company failed to develop these standards, which were to maintain public safety and health standards, thereby endangering public health. Seafood products run the risk of bacterial contaminants such as Staphylococcus aureus and Listeria monocytogenes, which cause serious illness in those who ingest them.
Anyone who has purchased smoked seafood products is cautioned to check with their local grocery store to see if the products are from Hope Food Supply Inc. Any adverse health reactions caused by the consumption of Hope Seafood supply products should contact their local healthcare facility.
The company will not be allowed to resume manufacturing until it developes and implements an FDA approved plan.
