According to Lafayette police Cpl. Paul Mouton, via CNN, six train cars derailed around 2:20 a.m. Saturday morning and two of them began leaking the acid, which caused authorities to start going door to door,
evacuating local area residents.
Residents from Our Lake of the Oaks nursing home are being transferred to a hospital for their safety.
Hydrochloric acid is also known by the name Muriatic acid and it is highly corrosive.
There have been no injuries reported at this time and none expected. The evacuation is being done as a precautionary measure due to the nature of Hydrochloric acid.
