Jaipur is a historic city in the state of Rajastan, India and is one of the main tourist spots in the country. Today, seven bombs went off minutes from each other and within a radius of 50 feet in a crowded marketplace area.

According to officials’ estimates, nearly 50 are dead and 150 are injured.

The police believe that bombs might have been planted in the wheels of bicycles and they found mangled remains of them at the blast sites.

No one came forward to claim responsibility but similar explosions have occurred in the past, which were tied to terrorists in Pakistan. The terrorists are trying to pull the state of Kashmir from India and they often use bombs to make a statement.

Sriprakash Jaiswal, the junior minister for home affairs, blamed the “foreign terrorists” from neighboring Pakistan. Pakistan vehemently denies any involvement or any support for such terrorists.

One blast went off around 7:30 p.m. near a temple dedicated to the Hindu god Hanuman. It's especially crowded on Tuesday evenings. Six more went off in quick succession in the warrens of shops and monuments nearby, including the popular 18th-century tourist site called Hawa Mahal, and the Johri Bazaar, lined with jewelers. Panic set in immediately, officials said.

The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has appealed to everyone to stay calm. The hospitals in Jaipur are flooded with victims and are requesting blood donations from the public.

The government has sent their explosives expert with the National Security Group to investigate the incident.

In Jaipur, mid-May is not the busy season for tourists, and there were no reports that any foreigners were killed in the explosions.

The bombings seems to occur with more frequency in India; the last one struck in August in Hyderabad, killing more than 40. Two years ago another serial bombing incident in Mumbai killed nearly 200.

The Hindu holy city of Varanasi was struck by a pair of bombings in March 2006, killing 14, and a blast killed two worshippers in one of the holiest Muslim shrines in Ajmer, also in Rajasthan, last September.

The Prime Minister Singh told the press it is too early to blame any one for the attacks but it appears as if the terrorists want to ignite a fight between Hindus and Muslims by attacking holy places.
