Starbucks Labeled 'Slutbucks' By A Christian Group

Starbucks recently introduced a new coffee called Pike Place Roast to revive their coffee business and brought in a retro logo to celebrate that event. But the logo has ended up into a big controversy.
Starbucks launched this new coffee “Pike Place Roast” this April. Nationwide they offered this coffee as the main selection and in some stores they offered it for $1 a cup. As part of the campaign, Starbucks re-introduced its 1971 brown and white logo that features a two-tailed mermaid.
Pike Place Market is the original place in Seattle where the first Starbucks began and at that time they had this logo in place. Later on they changed it the following logo, but still has a naked mermaid in the logo.

No one complained about this retro logo or paid any attention to it until a Christian group called for a nationwide boycott of Starbucks.
The Christian group called “The Resistance” issued the following statement in their press release by one of their leaders Mark Dice:
Starbucks has recently introduced a new version of their logo which features a topless mermaid with her legs spread, which has caused outrage from a nation wide Christian media watchdog organization. The Resistance, with has over 3000 members nationwide, is boycotting Starbucks across the country saying their new logo is inappropriate.
The Starbucks logo has a naked woman on it with her legs spread like a prostitute, explains Mark Dice, founder of the group. Need I say more? It's extremely poor taste, and the company might as well call themselves, Slutbucks.
Jen Phillips at MoJo blog gave the following response:
The fact that Dice doesn’t get the difference between a fin and a foot may be an example of what abstinence-only funding does to education.
The logo appears to be harmless, in my opinion we have seen far worse a boycott is unnecessary.
